Midnight and Liddy are Buddies

Ms. Liddy

Mr. Midnight

Liddy and Midnight love to travel together. I have noticed that Midnight tends to rub up against Liddy. So they must be good buddies. They never had babies together as we had Midnight fixed while Liddy was busy being conjugal with another cat, pushing out litter after litter. Midnight is feral. I got the impression from someone that Liddy started out tame, but she has become skittish since her abandonment by a neighbor of mine. She won't let us come near to her.

She comes to eat daily (did not for a while). And will sometimes eat two bowls of food at one feeding, which I'm really glad for. For awhile, after long absences, she would come, hang out here, but not eat anything. I was starting to wonder if there was something medically wrong with her. Now it's just that she does not seem to look very healthy. However, she has looked worse before (her hair was falling out in places in the past). So I'm feeling somewhat positive for her now.

A neighbor of mine who lives two doors down helps me tend to the homeless ones. She has strong suspicions that even recently over the summer coyotes have been coming into our neighborhood, killing and eating skunks. She hears the coyotes' sounds. And she hears squeals from the skunks. Of course, this is the way of Nature. I love the skunks, too, but the food chain is what it is. And it makes me very concerned for our homeless cat colony. So far, we have not lost any since this past winter. So I guess there must be enough skunks (and maybe rabbits, etc) to satisfy the coyotes for now. I am hoping that our cats are learning how to avoid the coyotes as they are hunting the skunks.

If any of you have stories about coyotes or other predators related to homeless or stray cats, I would be interested in your posts.

Check out my past posts where I have shared allot of my experiences and what I have learned from managing this homeless colony. Please let your friends know about my blog.
